Young K hits a solo high as 'Shut The Door' surges on Melon

DAY6's Young K has reached a new peak as a solo artist. On July 27 at 6 p.m., Young K released his second full-length album, 'YOUNGEST'. This marks his solo comeback approximately 2 years and 10 months after his 1st mini album 'Eternal' in 2021 and 1st full album 'Letters with notes' in 2023.

Title track 'Shut The Door' enters Melon at No. 7 and all tracks chart in

The chart ascent of the title track 'Shut The Door' is rapid. After entering the Melon TOP 100 at No. 36 at 7 p.m., just one hour after release, the song climbed to No. 7 as of midnight. It recorded No. 6 on the Melon HOT 100 and took 1st place in real-time on the Bugs chart. Out of the 15 self-composed songs included in this album, all tracks, including 'Marionette', were listed on the Melon TOP 100 chart as of 11 p.m. on the 27th.

Album sales surpass 50,000 copies, breaking personal best record

He also showed remarkable growth in album sales. According to Hanteo Chart data, 'YOUNGEST' recorded sales of over 52,000 copies on the day of release, climbing to 1st place on the real-time album chart. This is Young K's personal best record, surpassing both the 2021 1st mini album 'ETERNAL' (approximately 32,000 copies) and the 2023 1st full album 'Letters with notes' (approximately 40,100 copies).

The 2nd full album 'YOUNGEST' is a name that combines 'Young' from Young K's real name, Kang Young-hyun, with 'EST', meaning the superlative. The title track 'Shut The Door' is a synth-pop genre-based song containing diary-like lyrics about comforting oneself while keeping the door closed. The album features a total of 15 self-composed songs, including '100 Reasons Why We Break Up (with JINJOO of DNCE)'.

On the day of release, Young K appeared as radio DJ 'Young DJ' on the DAY6 official YouTube channel live 'The YOUNGEST Night Show', where he did an album unboxing and introduced messages for each track.

He also announced the fulfillment of a promise to the fandom 'My Day' based on the chart results. During the Melon Music Wave Live held on the 28th, Young K stated, "The fact that My Day did it, not just charting on the Hot 100 but also the Top 100, Bugs No. 1, and so on," adding, "If I achieve both music chart wins and music show wins, I will fulfill my promise to dance in Gwanghwamun."

Young K will hold his solo tour 'Young K Solo Tour' at Incheon Inspire Arena from August 14 to 16.
