Jennie's 'Dracula' turns US radio play into a Billboard No. 1

BLACKPINK's Jennie has ascended to the top of the Billboard radio charts, a key indicator of mainstream popularity in the United States.

Record-breaking No. 1 on Billboard Adult Pop Airplay

Forbes reported on the 27th (local time) that 'Dracula,' a collaboration between Jennie and Tame Impala, reached number one on the Billboard 'Adult Pop Airplay' weekly chart. While many K-pop artists have achieved success on the Billboard 'Hot 100' or 'Billboard 200,' this marks the first time an artist has overcome the high barrier of American radio stations.

Chart Reversal Driven by Short-form Craze

The recent number one achievement was accomplished based on high airplay frequency from local radio stations, moving beyond the streaming power of the fandom. Introduced in 1996, the Adult Pop Airplay chart calculates the number of times a song is broadcast across 40 adult-oriented radio stations in the United States.

'Dracula' was first released last October as a solo track by Tame Impala. Since the remix version featuring Jennie was released in February this year, it began a chart reversal, gaining global popularity centered around short-form platforms.

Currently, 'Dracula' holds number one positions in a total of seven categories, including Adult Pop Airplay, Pop Airplay, Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, Hot Rock Songs, Hot Alternative Songs, Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, and Dance Streaming Songs. It is also recording number six on the 'Hot 100,' the main singles chart.

Second K-pop Related Song to Reach the Top

This is the second time a K-pop related song has reached the top of the Billboard Adult Pop Airplay chart. Previously, in January this year, 'Golden,' the theme song for the Netflix animated film 'K-Pop Demon Hunters,' took number one on this chart. Jennie's 'Dracula' is the second K-pop related song to record number one on this chart, following in the footsteps of 'Golden.'
