Singer Jinsung has revealed a unique anecdote about the success of the medley album that ended his years of obscurity and how he stored the contract money he received at the time.
On the 35th episode of MBN’s 'Kim Ju-ha's Day and Night,' airing at 9:40 PM on the 25th, Jinsung and Kang Jin appear to share stories of their difficult days of obscurity and life after achieving success.
Jinsung reached a turning point in his life when he participated in an audition upon the recommendation of a lyricist. The medley album he participated in achieved the record-breaking feat of selling over 1 million copies, allowing him to end his long period of obscurity and earn the nickname 'The Four Kings of Medley.'
As the album gained massive popularity, love calls poured in from various record labels. Following competition among several production companies, Jinsung signed an exclusive contract with one company and received 100 million won as a contract fee.
At the time, Jinsung confessed that the large sum of money was so unfamiliar to him that he even felt anxious about depositing it in a bank. He stated, “I didn't even trust the bank back then, so I spread the money all out under my bed mattress.” The episode, where he mentioned rushing back home whenever he went out out of fear that a thief might break in, turned the studio into a sea of laughter.
After debuting with 'Your Lamp' in 1997, Jinsung made a name for himself when 'At Andong Station,' released in 2008, gained late popularity around 2012, four years after its release. In 2016, he also underwent treatment after being diagnosed with blood cancer.
