Chinese woman keeps caring for her ex-father-in-law after divorce

From Marriage at 21 to Divorce in 2010

A Chinese woman, who came to Korea to study during the Hallyu wave in the early 2000s, has revealed a family history spanning 26 years. The guest met a Korean man 11 years her senior and married at the young age of 21, but she endured a difficult life with her in-laws amidst prejudice and a patriarchal atmosphere.

Ultimately, due to extreme stress that deteriorated her health, she chose to divorce in 2010, ten years after her marriage. At that time, she began standing on her own with only custody of her two children and no alimony.

26 Years of Caregiving Continuing After Divorce

Although the legal family relationship was severed, the woman's devotion did not stop. She stayed by the side of her former father-in-law, who was left alone, until he passed away in a nursing home. Going beyond simply being present, she fulfilled her duties to the very end by taking on the heavy task of assisting with his bodily functions.

However, the wounds inflicted by her former mother-in-law during this process remain. Recently, after returning from meeting a teacher for her grandchild, the words thrown at her by the mother-in-law left her deeply hurt once again.
