Yang Ju-yeon and Choi Eun-soo take two Film X Gender shorts to the world stage
Yang Ju-yeon’s Moving Classroom and Choi Eun-soo’s Kick It! will world premiere at the 28th Seoul International Women's Film Festival.
Directors Yang Ju-yeon and Choi Eun-soo Finalized for '2026 Film X Gender'
Directors Yang Ju-yeon and Choi Eun-soo have been finally selected in the '2026 Film X Gender Short Film Production Support' open call. The Seoul International Women's Film Festival and the Korean Institute for Gender Equality Promotion and Education announced on the 28th that they held an award ceremony at the Mapo Central Library in Seoul to select the two directors.
Marking its 8th year, 'Film X Gender' is a project that supports the production of educational and cultural content to spread gender equality values. Hosted by the Korean Institute for Gender Equality Promotion and Education and organized by the Seoul International Women's Film Festival, this year's theme was 'Gender Equality and Violence Prevention in Daily Life.' After a competition involving a total of 84 projects, Yang Ju-yeon's 'Moving Classroom' and Choi Eun-soo's 'Kick It!' were ultimately chosen.
Two Works Capturing Educational Settings and Youth Perspectives
The two selected works were evaluated for interpreting the meaning of gender equality through everyday subject matter. Yang Ju-yeon's 'Moving Classroom' follows the perspective of an instructor continuing gender equality education in an arts education setting, capturing the concerns of the educational field and the essential meaning of gender equality education.
Choi Eun-soo's 'Kick It!' is a work that questions existing rules and customs that were accepted as natural based on gender. Through the stories of youth challenging their own possibilities, it depicts the importance of equal opportunity and respect.
Kim Sam-hwa, President of the Korean Institute for Gender Equality Promotion and Education, explained at the ceremony, "'Moving Classroom' contains the concerns and responsibilities faced in the educational field and the meaning of gender equality education," and "'Kick It!' is a work that depicts the challenges of youth while questioning customs based on gender."
20 million won support each and World Premiere screening at the film festival
Directors Yang Ju-yeon and Choi Eun-soo will each be provided with 20 million won, totaling 40 million won in production support funds. Along with the support funds, mentoring services covering the overall production of the works will be provided. The two completed short films will have their world premiere screening at the 28th Seoul International Women's Film Festival, held from August 20th to the 26th.
This award ceremony was held alongside the official press conference schedule for the 28th Seoul International Women's Film Festival. Attendees included Kim Sam-hwa, President of the Korean Institute for Gender Equality Promotion and Education, Chairperson Byeon Jae-ran, and Executive Committee Chair Hwang Hye-rim. The 28th Seoul International Women's Film Festival will be held at Megabox Sinchon and the Korean Film Archive.
