Actress Lee Yeon has been appointed as the 12th 'SIWFFstar,' the official ambassador for the 28th Seoul International Women's Film Festival. The Seoul International Women's Film Festival announced on the 10th that it has selected Lee Yeon as this year's SIWFFstar. SIWFFstar is an official ambassador role awarded annually to support the festival and promote the value of women's cinema.

The appointment was made through the connection between Lee Yeon's film 'The Journey to Gyeong-ju' and the festival. Director Kim Mi-jo's new film, 'The Journey to Gyeong-ju,' received production support after winning the 'Pitch & Catch Award' through 'Pitch & Catch,' the festival's feature film planning and development support program. Lee Yeon plays the role of 'Dong-ju,' a former wrestler and the third daughter, in the film.

"The Seoul International Women's Film Festival is a meaningful platform that discovers the voices of diverse female creators and connects their stories with audiences," Lee Yeon stated. "I am happy and honored to be part of the festival again as a SIWFFstar, following our connection through 'The Journey to Gyeong-ju.'"

Attending the August 20 Opening Ceremony... Delivering the Voices of Female Creators

Lee Yeon will meet audiences by attending the festival's opening ceremony on August 20. She is expected to carry out official promotional activities to raise public awareness of the diversity and values the festival promotes.

Lee Yeon built her reputation starting with the short film 'Akjil,' followed by feature films 'Take Me Home' and 'A Lonely Island in the Distant Sea,' and a powerful performance in the Netflix series 'Juvenile Justice.' Since then, she has appeared in 'D.P.', 'Weak Hero Class 1', the film 'Kill Boksoon', and 'Delightful Deception,' and is currently preparing to appear in the MBC drama 'Perfect Crown.'

The 28th Seoul International Women's Film Festival will be held for seven days from August 20 to August 26, 2026, centered at Megabox Sinchon and the Korean Film Archive.
