Jung Jun-won closes in on Gong Hyo-jin’s secret in Wife Killer
Jung Jun-won plays Kwon Tae-sung, Gong Hyo-jin’s husband and an investigative reporter, in Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation’s July drama Wife Killer.
Jung Jun-won will play the role of Kwon Tae-sung, the husband of Gong Hyo-jin, in the new MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Wife Killer.' Given that this is Gong Hyo-jin's first MBC drama in approximately 15 years since 'The Greatest Love,' Jung Jun-won's casting is seen as a significant addition to the lineup.

'Wife Killer' is scheduled to premiere in July, depicting the story of a woman who lives like an ordinary working mom while navigating between her family's daily life and dangerous missions. Based on the webtoon of the same name on KakaoPage, the project brings together director Yoon Jong-ho, who directed 'Lovely Runner' and 'Times,' and writer Kim Eun-hee, who wrote 'Ghost Doctor' and 'Live Up to Your Name.'
Kwon Tae-sung is a husband and investigative reporter
Jung Jun-won plays Kwon Tae-sung, the husband of Yoo Bo-na. At home, Kwon Tae-sung is a devoted husband and father who takes great care of his wife and daughter, but at work, he is an investigative reporter for a newspaper who cannot overlook injustice.
While Yoo Bo-na appears to be the manager of Sales Team 3 at Durumi Electronics, she is actually 'Kingfisher,' a killer who deals with heinous criminals who have escaped the judgment of the law. Kwon Tae-sung is known to be a person who previously tracked Kingfisher, and in this story, he finds himself in a position where he cannot help but get closer to his wife's secret. As the couple's daily life and the reporter's investigation collide within one person, how naturally Jung Jun-won builds the layers of emotion will be a crucial axis for the early development of the plot.
Gong Hyo-jin returns to MBC dramas after 15 years
Gong Hyo-jin takes on the role of Yoo Bo-na. She appears to be an ordinary office worker with a husband and a four-year-old daughter, but she is a character who returns to being a killer after finishing a three-year parental leave. Considering that Gong Hyo-jin is an actress strong in realistic acting, this work will not just stop at mixing laughter and action; the breathing between the face shown within the family and the face shown during secret missions will be vital.
Jung Jun-won also stands in a different position in this work. He has steadily made a name for himself in films such as 'Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet,' 'Anarchist from Colony,' 'Little Forest,' 'Believer,' and 'My First Client,' and recently met a wider audience through the drama 'Resident Playbook.' This time, he must build his presence within Gong Hyo-jin's comeback work by playing a reporter who is both the protagonist's spouse and a driver of the case's tension.
A pursuit structure involving Lee Sang-yi and Sung Dong Il
Lee Sang-yi and Sung Dong Il also join 'Wife Killer.' Lee Sang-yi plays Lee Dong-jin, a detective chasing Kingfisher, while Sung Dong Il plays Kim Bong-pal, the manager of Sales Team 3 at Durumi Electronics who helps Yoo Bo-na. Looking at the character dynamics, the fun of this drama will be created not just by the scale of the action, but also by how much they know of each other's identities and how much they can pretend not to know.
In the first episode, it must naturally reveal how convincingly the time when Yoo Bo-na and Kwon Tae-sung appear to be an ordinary couple is built, and how Kwon Tae-sung's process of following Kingfisher's traces as a reporter intertwines with the family story. Jung Jun-won's casting serves as the link between those two paths, and the choices made by husband Kwon Tae-sung will remain a significant pillar in Gong Hyo-jin's first MBC return in 15 years.
