J.Y. Park turns fandom into the star at Seoul-Goyang’s FANOMENON
Set for December 2027, FANOMENON plans 11 days of fandom awards, concerts and K-culture exhibits across Seoul Arena and KINTEX.
To be held for 11 days in Seoul and Goyang next December
The Popular Culture Exchange Committee held a press conference at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Education Building on the 27th, announcing plans to promote 'FANOMENON,' a large-scale K-culture festival connecting Seoul and Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, next December.
The festival will run for a total of 11 days, starting with an eve festival on December 2nd and continuing until the 12th. Stages will be held at two locations: Seoul Arena in Chang-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, and KINTEX Exhibition Center 2 in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do. At the Seoul Arena, which is scheduled for completion in May 2027, concerts and award ceremonies for domestic and international singers will take place, while festival-style music performances and K-culture corporate exhibitions will be held concurrently at KINTEX Exhibition Center 2.
Awards targeting fandoms and data-based selection
This festival will introduce an awards ceremony that makes fandoms the protagonists. The organizers plan to select the 'Top 10 Fandoms' that demonstrated the highest influence among singer fandoms worldwide throughout the year, with the Grand Prize being awarded to the best fandom.
The method of winning will be determined through data research and analysis that tracks the activities and achievements of fandoms, rather than simple voting. The awards are received by the fandom, with the format where the artist takes the stage to accept them on their behalf. Co-chairman J.Y. Park stated, "If we view fandom as an industry and South Korea becomes the leader of that industry, it will be a long-lasting strength for our country."
1 trillion won economic effect and global expansion
This project will operate as a model combining private sector creativity with government support. Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young stated, "We will design it with a structure that generates revenue through paid tickets and sponsorships."
The Korea Culture and Tourism Institute analyzed that this event will attract a total of 520,000 visitors. Among them, foreign tourists are expected to reach 200,000, and the economic effect generated through this is estimated to be approximately 1 trillion won.
The committee plans to hold the 'FANOMENON Festival' in Los Angeles, USA, in May 2028 for global expansion. Chairman J.Y. Park announced that he will promote the establishment of 'K-Culture Centers' in major cities around the world, combining K-pop performance venues with exhibition and sales spaces for Korean companies.
