MONSTA X main vocalist Kihyun is returning as a solo artist after approximately 3 years and 9 months. The 2nd mini album ‘BORDERLINE’ is an album that contains the musical contemplations accumulated through his career of the past 10 years, military service, and group activities.

Kihyun returns as a solo artist with rock-driven mini album BORDERLINE

Kihyun took a leading role in this album, from song composition to the selection of the title track. Based on the singing ability he has built up as the main vocalist of MONSTA X, he presents the color of solo artist Yoo Ki-hyun more clearly.

The 3 years and 9 months of hiatus contained in ‘BORDERLINE’

This 2nd mini album ‘BORDERLINE’ is the next result of the musical world Kihyun has built as a soloist. If the first solo single ‘Voyager’ and the 1st mini album ‘Youth’ were processes of exploring independent music, this album is closer to the conclusion reached after that time has passed.

The album title ‘Borderline’ brings to mind the boundary between the group's main vocalist and a solo artist, and between existing musical frameworks and new directions. Having gone through a hiatus of nearly 4 years and military service, Kihyun actively reflected his own opinions in this work.

Rock sound led by the title track ‘So Good’

The title track ‘So Good’ is a song that contains the core message of the album. The lyrics sing of the sense of liberation at the moment of deciding to trust one's own senses and choices amidst the pressure of being required to provide correct answers and forced to conform to the gaze of others.

The sound centers on rock. ‘So Good’ features a composition where the incrementally building guitar sound and Kihyun's high notes interlock. The album is arranged with tracks that showcase refreshing energy, delicate emotional lines, and powerful vocals.

“My opinions were most heavily included”

Regarding this album, Kihyun said, “This album reflects more of my own opinions than any album I have released so far,” and added, “I am confident in the quality more than any other album.” As it is a solo album released after a long hiatus, he explained that he spent sufficient time selecting and refining the songs.

‘BORDERLINE’ is an album where Kihyun re-establishes his voice as a solo vocalist on the foundation of being the MONSTA X main vocalist. This round of promotions will focus on delivering both explosive high notes and delicate expression over a rock sound.
