Portrait of a Family teaser pulls Ryu Seung Ryong back into crisis

The Breakup of Top Stars and the Tragedy Arriving 8 Years Later

The film 'Portrait of a Family' tells the story of Jung-gu (played by Ryu Seung Ryong) and Nam-mi (played by Ha Ji-won), a top star couple who once enjoyed great fame. Their marriage ends when Jung-gu's daughter, Dong-ju (played by Kim Si-a), suddenly appears. Eight years after they have gone their separate ways, their once peaceful lives are thrown into turmoil again by the death of a middle school girl at Urimcheon.

In the released teaser trailer, Dong-ju expresses deep guilt, saying, "It's because of me that she died." Amidst a precarious situation where she could be identified as a primary suspect in the incident, the parents set aside their conflicts from eight years ago and join hands again to resolve the crisis their daughter faces.

Director Lee Ji-won Depicts a Family's Struggle

This work is the new film from director Lee Ji-won, who won the Best New Director award in the film category at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards. Having portrayed the solidarity of women and the socially vulnerable through her previous work 'Miss Baek,' Lee focuses in this film on how a family bound by blood protects one another in extreme situations.

The teaser video unfolds by contrasting the emotional lines of the characters. A scene from the past where Jung-gu shows affection by gifting shoes to Dong-ju is intercut with his present-day appearance, shocked at the scene of the Urimcheon death. Nam-mi shows firm determination, saying, "Win by any means necessary. And save her," while the scene of Jung-gu desperately running while holding Dong-ju's hand demonstrates the family's desperation to protect their daughter. The film progresses by alternating between the past and present over a total of 113 minutes.

Ryu Seung Ryong, Ha Ji-won, Kim Si-a, and a Solid Supporting Cast

Led by Ryu Seung Ryong, Ha Ji-won, and Kim Si-a, the cast includes Kim Hae-suk, Kim Sun-young, and Kim Yeong-min. Ryu Seung Ryong plays Jung-gu, who pursues the truth of the incident driven by paternal love, while Ha Ji-won plays Nam-mi, who exercises decisiveness for her daughter. Rookie Kim Si-a portrays Dong-ju, who is at the center of the incident.
