Ryu Seung Ryong and Ha Ji-won hit rock bottom in Portrait of a Family
Ryu Seung Ryong and Ha Ji-won play fallen ex-spouses in Lee Ji-won’s Portrait of a Family, opening nationwide on September 2.
Actors Ryu Seung Ryong and Ha Ji-won will reunite as a divorced couple in the film 'Portrait of a Family.' Distributor Playgram announced on the 9th that 'Portrait of a Family,' starring Ryu Seung Ryong and Ha Ji-won, has confirmed its nationwide theatrical release for September 2.

The film tells the story of Jung-gu (played by Ryu Seung Ryong) and Nam-mi (played by Ha Ji-won), a top star couple who once enjoyed peak popularity. After their marriage falls apart due to the sudden appearance of their daughter, Dong-ju (played by Kim Si-a), and their lives plummet to rock bottom, the two engage in a desperate struggle once more eight years later when Dong-ju becomes embroiled in a shocking incident.
The title 'Portrait of a Family' (Bi-gwang) is derived from a Hwatu card. It carries the meaning of 'the card that shines brightest in a moment of crisis,' symbolizing the solidarity of characters who hold onto each other and endure even in desperate situations. The released launch poster visualizes the film's emotional tone by showing the back of a person holding an umbrella under a weeping willow.
Reunion of Director Lee Ji-won and Rookie Kim Si-a
Director Lee Ji-won, who won the Baeksang Arts Award for Best New Director for the film 'Miss Baek,' wrote and directed this work. Lee continues the messages of salvation and solidarity shown in her previous work through this film.
The actors' character transformations are also noteworthy. Ryu Seung Ryong portrays Jung-gu, a former top baseball player who lost his honor due to his daughter's appearance, revealing a heavy sense of paternal love. Ha Ji-won takes on the role of Nam-mi, who has left her glamorous days behind to become a celebrity struggling for a livelihood.
Kim Si-a, the rookie who debuted after beating 600-to-1 competition odds during the casting for 'Miss Baek,' was selected for the central role of the daughter, Dong-ju. Kim Si-a reunites with director Lee Ji-won to portray the anxiety of a girl identified as a suspect in her friend's death. Additionally, Kim Hae-suk, Kim Sun-young, and Kim Yeong-min join as family members uniting to protect Dong-ju, adding weight to the drama.
