Jang Yoon-ju says the ‘bone-thin’ look would send her to hospital
Jang Yoon-ju opens up on YouTube about extreme thinness, idol beauty standards and why her model-era body routine no longer works.
"It was possible in my 20s, but now it would strain my health"
Model-turned-actress Jang Yoon-ju shared her thoughts on health, stating that it is no longer easy for her to maintain a 'bone-thin' physique—a term used to describe an extremely thin body type.

In a video released on the YouTube channel 'Joo Hyun-young is the Lead' on the 16th, Jang Yoon-ju met with actress Joo Hyun-young for a conversation. While discussing recent trends in pop culture and fashion, as well as body management, Jang expressed a firm stance when Joo Hyun-young mentioned the 'bone-thin' body type that has become a recent trend.
"I can't do 'bone-thin' anymore," Jang said. "I was bone-thin in my 20s, so if I tried that now, I'd have to go to the hospital." Having maintained strict self-discipline throughout her long career as a model, she added the realistic judgment that her past methods could be too taxing on her current physical condition. Joo Hyun-young expressed her empathy, adding, "I'm telling you, you'd be in the hospital in no time."
"It's unfortunate that extreme thinness has become the 'ideal aesthetic' for idols"
Jang Yoon-ju also expressed concern regarding the aesthetic standards currently pursued by the fashion industry and idol culture.
"Nowadays, many outfits are designed specifically for bone-thin bodies," she pointed out, noting a tendency for clothes on the market to be manufactured based on excessively thin physiques. She further expressed regret over the social phenomenon where the younger generation chases extreme thinness, saying, "Since idols promote themselves beautifully at such a young age, the public envies them, and it seems to have become their 'ideal aesthetic'—people thinking, 'I want to look like that too.'"
Regarding how values change with age, Joo Hyun-young noted that "the standards of beauty in your 20s, 30s, and 40s are different," mentioning that the definition of beauty pursued at specific age groups changes naturally.
