Tom Cruise goes gray and paunchy as Iñárritu's Digger breaks cover
Warner Bros. unveils the first Digger trailer, with Tom Cruise transformed as oil tycoon Digger Rockwell for Iñárritu's October 2 release.
Tom Cruise transforms with white hair and a belly to play oil tycoon 'Digger Rockwell'
Hollywood action star Tom Cruise is returning with a completely different look. In the first official trailer for the film 'Digger' released by Warner Bros., Tom Cruise sheds his sleek image to appear as a man with white hair, a receding hairline, and a protruding belly. His appearance, achieved through special makeup and prosthetics, portrays the character 'Digger Rockwell' that he plays in this work.

In the film, Digger Rockwell is an oil tycoon with global influence. He struggles to prevent a disaster as the drilling operations he conducted lead to a massive environmental catastrophe, which further escalates into a nuclear war crisis. The film depicts the arrogance of the powerful and the disaster situation in a black comedy format.
Director Iñárritu's 10-year long-awaited project and Tom Cruise's first solo lead in 9 years
This production has garnered attention since the production stage due to the meeting of director Alejandro González Iñárritu, a four-time Academy Award winner for Best Director, and Tom Cruise. Director Iñárritu came up with the idea while wrapping up the film 'The Revenant' and has been preparing this project for approximately 10 years.
For Tom Cruise, this film marks his first non-franchise solo lead role in 9 years since 'American Made' in 2017. Attention is focused on the new acting direction he will show, having previously concentrated on major action franchises such as the 'Mission Impossible' series and 'Top Gun: Maverick.'
During a Q&A session held in Los Angeles last Thursday, Tom Cruise shared his thoughts on the role, stating, "There has never been a project in my career that stimulated me and provoked my sense of challenge to this extent." Director Iñárritu also expressed his trust in the actor, saying, "This film absolutely needed Tom Cruise."
Accomplished cast including Sandra Hüller joins the lineup
The cast adding weight to the film is also illustrious. Including Sandra Hüller, who was recognized for her acting in 'Anatomy of a Fall,' Jesse Plemens, John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D'Arcy, and Michael Stuhlbarg join to lead the drama.
'Digger,' a film where Director Iñárritu's direction meets Tom Cruise's transformation, will be released in theaters on October 2 local time in the United States.
