Park Bo Gum Implements the Narrative of Adult David Through Voice

Actor Park Bo Gum will meet audiences through his voice instead of his face on screen. In the animation 'David' (directed by Phil Cunningham and Brent Dos), which opens in theaters nationwide on July 10, Park Bo Gum delivers a voice performance as the adult David.

Park Bo-gum to Make Voice Acting Debut in Animated Film 'David'

The film depicts the process of David, once an ordinary shepherd, facing his destiny as a king while confronting the giant Goliath. In a scene where David is an adult riding a horse, Park Bo Gum personally sings the film's representative number, 'Follow the Light.' Drawing on his experience from the musical 'Let Me Fly,' he handles the film's musical numbers and works alongside Cha Jiyeon, who plays his mother, Nitzabeth. The dubbing cast also includes Jang Gwang, Song Joon-seok, and Si Young-jun.

During a special GV (Guest Visit) held at Lotte Cinema World Tower on the 6th, director Jang Sung-ho commented on Park Bo Gum's casting, stating, "From the moment I first heard the news, I thought he was a perfect fit," and added, "He naturally found his tone and even handled the singing brilliantly." Lotte Entertainment is in charge of importing and distributing the film 'David.'

Hollywood-Level Scale Completed After 10 Years of Production

'David' is a work completed over 10 years by approximately 400 artists across 32 countries. Director Jang Sung-ho revealed that the production of characters, environments, and props reached a level comparable to major Hollywood studios.

The directing method followed the grammar of live-action films. Instead of animation-style exaggeration, the production chose restrained camera work to emphasize the scale of the epic. Director Jang explained, "We applied the filming grammar of live-action movies—staying within the limits of what is possible on an actual filming set—directly to the animation." The subtitled cast includes Brandon Engman, Phil Wickham, Brian Steibail, Adam Michael Gold, and Miri Mesica.

A Lineup Ranging from Yoon Kyung-ho's Four Roles to the Re-release of 'A Dog's Courage'

The summer box office will be filled with a diverse lineup of animations. Actor Yoon Kyung-ho will take on the challenge of playing four different roles—a Viking, a field cameraman, a sandwich man, and a robber—in 'MINIONS & MONSTERS' (directed by Pierre Coffin), which opens on the 15th.

Additionally, 'A Dog's Courage' (2019), which featured the voices of Doh Kyung-soo and Park So Dam, is set for an August re-release as a new remastered version titled 'Free Dogs' (directed by Oh Seong-yun and Lee Chun-baek). This version has been re-edited to a 93-minute runtime, applying 4K resolution upscaling and Dolby Atmos sound.
