Yoon Si-yoon says he nearly lost Bread, Love and Dreams lead role before Park Sung-woong helped him with tearful scenes

Actor Yoon Si-yoon revealed on MBC's variety show 'Radio Star' the story of how he almost missed the leading actor role in the drama 'Bread, Love and Dreams' (hereafter 'Bread, Love and Dreams'), which recorded a peak viewership rating of 49.3%. He stated that as a rookie, the possibility of him being replaced was being discussed right before his casting was finalized, but he was able to keep the leading role thanks to the director's decision.

Casting crisis revealed on 'Radio Star' on July 1

Appearing on MBC's 'Radio Star' broadcast on July 1, Yoon Si-yoon recalled the urgent situation at that time. Having made his acting debut through the sitcom 'High Kick! Short Legs!', he was unexpectedly mentioned as a candidate for the leading role in a serious drama.

However, opposition from those around him was significant. Yoon Si-yoon confessed, "There was so much opposition from those around me," revealing that even the director and writer were making plans to replace him. Sensing that the casting might fall through, he attended the meeting and said, "Looking back, it was clearly a meeting where the director and writer were going to tell me they were sorry but could not give me the role."

Yoon Si-yoon said he prepared for the meeting more passionately than anyone else, without knowing the result. He recalled that the director, watching him, made the decision, "Let's trust him and go for it," and Yoon Si-yoon dramatically secured the lead role.

Park Sung-woong's help with tearful scenes in early filming

The process after the leading role was confirmed was not smooth either. Yoon Si-yoon revealed that there were many scenes where he had to shed tears to express the tragic situations his character faced, but as a novice actor, he experienced great difficulty in controlling his emotions.

In the early stages of filming, even after struggling for one or two hours for a tearful scene, the tears would not come. He faced such difficulty capturing the emotions that filming was even pushed to the next day, and the pressure grew.

It was actor Park Sung-woong who helped him at this time. During the rehearsal process, Park Sung-woong took on the role of Yoon Si-yoon's character's mother and led him so he could capture the emotions. Yoon Si-yoon also recalled his days during 'High Kick!', which was his activity period before 'Bread, Love and Dreams'. As an adult rookie, there were many moments when he had to rely on child actors, and he shared that Jin Ji-hee and Seo Shin-ae, who were 11 and 12 years old at the time, taught him everything from how to read scripts to filming terms like 'Bust shot'.

He also shared an anecdote about planning an outing to the Han River with the child actors after purchasing his first new car. Yoon Si-yoon brought laughter as he shared a memory of being flustered when Jin Ji-hee secretly invited senior actor Shin Se-kyung to a gathering he had prepared to show off his car.
