Kim Seon-tae's Samsung bet leaves 212 million won on the table
Kim Seon-tae says he sold his home to buy 1,000 Samsung Electronics shares, then cashed out before a massive missed gain.
Sold his house to buy 1,000 shares of Samsung Electronics
Entertainer Kim Seon-tae has revealed a high-stakes anecdote from his past when he invested his entire fortune into Samsung Electronics stock.

Appearing on the variety program 'Donseontae's Era of Success' on the YouTube channel 'KBS Enter' recently, Kim Seon-tae confessed that he sold the house he lived in and moved into a monthly rental just to hold 1,000 shares of Samsung Electronics. At the time, his average purchase price for Samsung Electronics was 58,000 won per share.
Sold all shares at 62,000 won after more than two years of sideways trading
The core issue was the prolonged period of stagnant stock prices. Kim Seon-tae stated that he felt psychological pressure as the stock price remained trapped in a box range for a long time without rising. He expressed his feelings at the time, saying, "The sideways movement lasted so long that I eventually exploded in anger."
Ultimately, he liquidated his entire position when the stock price hovered around the 62,000 won mark. Citing structural issues in the domestic stock market, such as the split listings of domestic companies, he added, "I felt like the Korean market wouldn't work out, so I sold everything."
Had he held onto the 1,000 shares he purchased, he could have realized a profit of approximately 212 million won, based on the Samsung Electronics closing price of 270,000 won as of the 23rd, when the video was released.
Nominates Chairman Lee Jae-yong as a guest
Kim Seon-tae, who built the 'Chungju-man' character while working as the operator for the Chungju City Hall YouTube channel, has been pursuing full-time activities as an entertainer following his retirement this year.
During the broadcast, when asked who he would choose if he could invite one guest, he picked Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong. Having experienced many ups and downs through his investment in Samsung Electronics, he expressed his desire to meet the head of the company in person.
