Cha In-pyo to Make Stage Debut as John Keating in Play 'Dead Poets Society'

This production will run from July 18 to September 13 at Nol Theater (Woori Card Hall) in Daehak-ro, Seoul. Set in the prestigious Welton Academy in 1950s America, the work tells the story of English teacher John Charles Keating, who teaches the true values of life to students living under strict discipline and entrance exam competition.

Cha In Pyo will portray the free-spirited teacher John Keating. He decided to take on this stage challenge based on his experience of being deeply moved by the film 'Dead Poets Society' during his 20s.

Stage direction containing the 'Carpe Diem' message

In the play, Mr. Keating suggests a new attitude toward life to his students by writing 'Carpe Diem' on the chalkboard during the first class. To show the will of characters striving to live independent lives even within an oppressive environment, the play directs scenes such as students climbing onto their desks.

Additionally, songs and choreography are added during opening ceremonies or scene transitions to create the rhythm of the play. The central narrative follows the process of student Neil Perry, who was preparing to become a doctor according to his father's wishes, as he challenges himself to pursue theater to find his own dream.

The performance concludes with a scene where students climb onto their desks while shouting "O Captain! My Captain!" toward the departing Mr. Keating.
