Singer Bae Ki-sung has revealed his recent health struggles and family history.

During the 5th-anniversary special 'Chosun's Lover Singing Contest' aired on TV CHOSUN on the 13th, Bae Ki-sung opened up about his hearing loss symptoms that have persisted for five months. He stated that he experiences tinnitus 24 hours a day and currently cannot hear any voices coming from his right side. He even received a diagnosis from his doctor stating that if his hearing does not improve within six months, he could be diagnosed with a disability.
"It weighs heavily on my heart that I cannot show you my best vocal volume or condition," Bae Ki-sung shared. He explained that the sudden hearing loss began during the process of trying for a natural pregnancy, and he showed himself eating restorative foods with his wife to aid his recovery.
News of his father's passing and an acapella rendition of 'Farewell'
Adding to the poignancy, Bae Ki-sung shared that three weeks before the recording, he honestly told his father about his ear condition, only for his father to collapse and be admitted to the intensive care unit the following day. "I should have just said my ears were fine," he expressed with regret.
He then sang Patty Kim's 'Farewell' acapella, pouring his heart into preparing for the final parting with his father. The studio turned into a sea of tears at his plea: "I just wish my father could look at my face one last time." Bae Ki-sung added that his father passed away one week after the recording. He expressed his gratitude to 'Chosun's Lover,' saying, "I am so thankful to 'Chosun's Lover' for giving me the courage to express my feelings toward my father." On this day, Bae Ki-sung sang M4's 'Melody for You' and finished in 2nd place.
