Hwang Hee follows the money as JTBC’s APT tops weekend ratings

JTBC's weekend drama 'APT' has secured the number one spot in viewership. In episodes 5 and 6, which aired on the 25th and 26th, 'APT' recorded an average viewership of 5.2% in both the Seoul metropolitan area and nationwide according to Nielsen Korea, taking first place in its time slot among terrestrial and cable channels.

Actor Hwang Hee plays the role of Je-gil, who performs the task of digging into deep-rooted corruption within the apartment complex. Je-gil tracks the whereabouts of the missing long-term repair reserve fund, exposing the corruption inside the complex. After confirming that the bank account balance was empty, Je-gil engineered a situation where the long-term repair reserve fund had to be executed, then searched various parts of the complex to capture decisive evidence, bringing it to public attention and pressuring the existing powers.

17.8 Billion Won Long-term Repair Reserve Fund Disappearance and Corruption Reality

This installment depicted the process of tracking the missing 17.8 billion won long-term repair reserve fund. Park Hae-gang (played by Jisung) deceived Jang Sook-jin (played by Moon So-ri) by acting as a fake couple with Kang Ha-ri (played by Ha Yoon-kyung), then continued the investigation into the corruption. In this process, Park Hae-gang and the 'intermittent family' revealed the reality of the corruption: 123 households, including Seo Gang-won (played by Bek Hyunjin), had been exempt from heating fees for the past 6 years, with other households bearing those costs instead. Park Hae-gang brought this fact to public attention through a picket protest.

The villain Lee Chung-won (played by Park Byeong-eun) heightened the tension by secretly burying Seo Gang-won in Taego-won. Lee Chung-won, who continued his evil deeds by rotating the long-term repair reserve funds, applied pressure by delivering CCTV photos showing Park Hae-gang visiting a bank. In response, Park Hae-gang made a proposal to become Lee Chung-won's henchman.

Entwining Character Relationships and Expanding Narrative

Changes in relationships between characters were also evident. While Je-gil formed a rivalry by clashing with Kang Ha-ri, he showed a different side from Park Hae-gang and built a sense of solidarity with the members of the 'intermittent family.' Je-gil tracked the movements of the management office manager to capture the mastermind behind the corruption case.

The plot continues to unfold as Kang Ha-ri faces the risk of running into her older sister Kang Ha-jung (played by Ryu Hyun-kyung), and Jang Sook-jin begins to suspect Park Hae-gang. The JTBC weekend drama 'APT' airs every Saturday at 10:40 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 p.m.
