An Unprecedented Meeting: Christopher Nolan and Matt Damon on 'You Quiz on the Block'

Hollywood maestro director Christopher Nolan and actor Matt Damon will visit Korea on the 3rd of next month. Having expressed their intention to visit Korea personally ahead of the release of their new film 'Odyssey', the two will appear together on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block'. It is highly unusual for a Hollywood director and a leading actor to appear together on a Korean variety program.

Matt Damon will meet Korean fans for the first time in approximately 10 years since his visit in 2016 to promote the film 'Jason Bourne'. Through a trailer, he sent greetings to Yoo Jae Suk and shared his thoughts on appearing alongside director Nolan.

The Scale of the 380 billion Won Epic 'Odyssey'

The new film 'Odyssey' is a work based on the ancient Greek epic 'Odyssey'. It depicts the long journey of the hero Odysseus, who led the Trojan War to victory, as he attempts to return to his homeland. This is the new work presented by director Nolan following 'Oppenheimer'.

This production is a large-scale project with an investment of approximately 250 million dollars (about 380 billion Korean won). During the 91-day filming period, approximately 609km of film was used, and new IMAX filming technology developed specifically for 'Odyssey' was applied. The cast includes Matt Damon, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Jon Bernthal, Travis Scott, Charlize Theron, and Tom Holland. The film will be released in North America on the 17th and in Korea on August 5.

A Confrontation with the AI Film 'Odysseus, The Fall'

Ahead of the release of 'Odyssey', the AI film 'Odysseus, The Fall' produced by director Ash Kucha is drawing attention by creating a competitive dynamic. 'Odysseus, The Fall' is a work where director Kucha conceived the scenario, visual composition, and voice acting, while the actors, sets, and cameras were all implemented using AI.

Regarding this, director Nolan expressed his views on AI technology in an interview with AFP on the 11th, stating, "The idea that AI will entirely replace human creativity is absurd." Director Ash Kucha expressed his hope that audiences will compare the two elements: human direction and AI collaboration.

The tvN production team plans to capture the philosophy regarding the film and sincere talks that the two will share through this episode of 'You Quiz on the Block'. Filming will take place on the 3rd of next month to coincide with their visit to Korea.
