Yesung jokes Silla 'swallowed' him on a playful Gyeongju tour
Super Junior's Yesung visits the National Gyeongju Museum, poses by the Cheonmachong Gold Crown and riffs on Silla and Gaya history.
“Did Silla Swallow Me Up?” Yesung’s Humorous Tour as a Gaya Descendant
Super Junior member Yesung visited Gyeongju, a city known in the article as the thousand-year-old ancient capital and the former capital of Silla, while presenting himself as a descendant of Gaya. His trip brought him face to face with Silla history, and he spent a distinctive day at the National Gyeongju Museum.

Yesung, openly showing an identity connected to Gaya, expressed a curious mix of feelings while touring the Silla History Hall. Standing before Silla’s imposing historical artifacts, he jokingly remarked, “Did Silla swallow me up?” The comment turned his perspective as a self-styled Gaya person into a moment of light humor rather than solemn reflection.
One especially memorable stop came when Yesung encountered the Cheonmachong Gold Crown, a symbol of Silla. He marked the moment by taking a proof photo in front of the crown, adding a playful personal record to his museum visit. While looking over Silla ornaments, he also noticed that he himself was wearing a Silla bracelet, a discovery that made the encounter with Silla culture feel even more immediate.
From “Nupdok” at the Silla Millennium Library to Plans for a Treasure-Hunting Crew
Yesung continued his visit by making use of several facilities inside the museum. At the Silla Millennium Library, he shifted into what was described as “Nupdok” mode, a coined term explained in the article as reading while lying on the floor. In the museum’s quiet atmosphere, he relaxed by lying down and reading, showing another slower side of his Gyeongju itinerary.
He also showed fascination with the idea that almost anything in Gyeongju could be an artifact. When he heard that even a stone by the roadside might be a relic from a thousand years ago, he listened with interest and let the thought expand his sense of the city. Drawn to that possibility, Yesung came up with a plan to recruit a “treasure-hunting crew” that would search for hidden treasures throughout Gyeongju, revealing his affection for the trip. He then toured Wolji Hall, where he showed further interest in the culture of the people of Silla.
