Kim Jang-hoon sets course for Dokdo with a new Coast Guard rank

Appointment as Donghae Coast Guard Ambassador and Conferring of Superintendent Rank

Singer Kim Jang-hoon is set to become the new face of the Donghae Regional Coast Guard. On the afternoon of the 21st, the Donghae Regional Coast Guard officially appointed Kim Jang-hoon, who has long been active as a “Protector of Dokdo,” as its official ambassador at the agency's main auditorium. In recognition of his symbolic contribution to the defense of Dokdo and his public interest value, Kim was also awarded the rank of Superintendent within the Coast Guard.

At the appointment ceremony, Kim Jang-hoon shared his thoughts, stating, “Dokdo is the pride of our nation that we must all protect together. It is an honor to be appointed as the ambassador for the Donghae Regional Coast Guard, which protects the East Sea and Dokdo of the Republic of Korea, and I will do my best to widely promote the value of Dokdo and the role of the Coast Guard to the public.”

Acting Commissioner of the Donghae Regional Coast Guard Lee Jong-wook presented the appointment plaque and certificate. Kim then joined Coast Guard personnel and Donghae citizens to read the maritime safety declaration under the slogan “Life jackets are life-saving jackets.” Immediately following the ceremony, a “Communication and Harmony Concert” was held for local residents and Coast Guard staff.

7th Visit to Dokdo… Special Stage with Coast Guard Band Announced

Kim Jang-hoon's activities will continue with a visit to Dokdo on the 22nd. This visit was arranged at the request of the Donghae Regional Coast Guard, and new Coast Guard recruits completing their training will participate as the audience. Kim plans to boost the pride and patriotism of the Coast Guard through a special performance collaborating with the Coast Guard band.

Including this upcoming trip, this marks Kim Jang-hoon's seventh visit to Dokdo. He has previously held three performances exclusively on Dokdo. Beyond this, he has continuously engaged in activities to promote Dokdo as South Korean territory, such as Baduk matches, Dokdo photography campaigns, and swimming across Dokdo.

Having debuted in 1991, Kim Jang-hoon has practiced his love for Dokdo by moving his official registered residence to Dokdo-ri, Ulleung-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do in 2013. Moving forward, he will carry out various promotional activities in cooperation with the Donghae Regional Coast Guard, including defending the maritime sovereignty of Dokdo and the East Sea and spreading maritime safety culture.
