BTS Brings 'Arirang' to London as the London Eye Turns Red

BTS opens its London 'Arirang' concerts with red citywide displays, sold-out Tottenham Hotspur Stadium dates and new tour milestones.

BTS will stage its world tour 'Arirang (ARIRANG)' in London for two days, from July 6 to 7 local time, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The concerts bring the K-pop group to one of the British capital's major stadium venues as the city prepares a series of visible tributes tied to BTS's new album, 'Arirang.'

BTS 'ARIRANG' Lands in London as London Eye Turns Red

London landmarks are also joining the celebration. The London Eye, described as one of the city's symbols, and the area around the River Thames will be filled with a red wave commemorating the album. The color is being used as the visual signature for 'Arirang,' turning the riverside setting into part of the welcome for BTS.

Ahead of the concerts, the London Eye will be lit in red to represent 'Arirang.' On the River Thames, a large 32-meter floating boat bearing the English-language 'ARIRANG' logo will operate, adding to the sense that the wider city is preparing to receive the group rather than limiting the occasion to the stadium alone.

Special BTS content will also be shown at The Outernet, a digital media hub in London. From July 8 to 10, immediately after the concerts, a three-day media art exhibition will be presented for London residents, extending the tour's presence in the city beyond the two concert nights.

After completing the London dates, the 'Arirang' world tour will continue to Paris, France, marking the next stop on BTS's European itinerary.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium concerts have recorded one of the highest levels of seat occupancy since the stadium opened. Tickets for roughly 120,000 seats have all been sold, underscoring the scale of demand for the London performances.

The sellout in London follows earlier momentum across the tour. Forty-one performances in North America and Europe have already sold out early. The 'Arirang' world tour is the largest tour in BTS's history, scheduled for a total of 88 performances in 34 major cities around the world.

Tottenham Hotspur also made an unusual change inside its home stadium for the concerts. The club replaced the display shelves in its official store, removing football uniforms and filling the space instead with the Army Bomb, BTS's official light stick, along with related merchandise. In the local context, clearing out the club's symbolic uniforms and rebuilding the retail area around a visiting artist is being treated as a rare move.

BTS's current standing is also visible in the numbers surrounding the tour and the album. In May, the group generated 127.8 million dollars, about 200 billion won, from concerts in four cities including Las Vegas in the United States and Mexico City. Billboard analyzed that BTS set the highest monthly tour revenue for a group, surpassing the previous record held by The Rolling Stones by 35 percent.

Since announcing its full-group comeback in March with its fifth full-length album, 'Arirang,' BTS has also made chart history. The album became the first K-pop release to hold No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for three consecutive weeks, and it has remained on the main chart for more than 14 weeks.

Recognition for 'Arirang' has extended beyond the Billboard chart. The American publication The Rolling Stones and the British music outlet NME selected 'Arirang' as one of the best albums of the year. In Argentina, the city of La Plata unanimously passed a motion to appoint BTS as an 'honorary foreign guest' ahead of an October concert.

Pop culture critic Kim Heon-sik said the scale and visibility of the events around BTS reflect the group's international value. 'Because it is an international event that has to be extremely successful worldwide, not just anyone can be cast as the main headliner there,' Kim said. 'In that respect, their value has been recognized globally as well.'

BTS has also been named a main headliner for the first final halftime show in World Cup history, joining global musicians including Madonna and Shakira on the lineup.
