Tiffany Young gives Yumi's Cells a tender go-at-your-own-pace pulse
At the Yumi's Cells press call in Seoul, Tiffany Young shares how the musical turns Yumi's doubts into comfort before its August 23 run ends.
The press call for the musical 'Yumi's Cells' was held on the afternoon of the 9th at the CJ Towol Theater in the Seoul Arts Center, Seocho-gu, Seoul. The cast in attendance included Tiffany Young and Kim Ye-won, who play the lead role of Yumi, alongside Choi Jae-rim, Leo, Kim So-hyang, Yoo Ria, Im Gi-hong, and Yuk Hyun-wook.

"A Character So Lovely Even in Her Hesitation"
Returning to the stage after 'Chicago,' Tiffany Young revealed the deep thought she put into portraying the character of Yumi. "My main focus was making Yumi a character whose story could become everyone's story," she said, emphasizing the character's human qualities.
Tiffany Young added, "The way she hesitates, fears, feels anxious, and lacks certainty is actually what makes her a more lovely and beautiful character. I want to continuously deliver the message that it is okay to go at your own pace and according to your own rhythm." She continued, expressing the connection she feels on stage, "I feel like we complete the show together with the audience every single time, and I feel like I am growing through Yumi as well."
Energy Gained from the Audience's Tears
Kim Ye-won, who also plays the role of Yumi, mentioned the bond with the audience. "Yumi's Cells is a production that receives an extraordinary amount of energy when we are with the audience," Kim Ye-won said. "Seeing the audience members wiping away tears made me realize how much comfort they are receiving."
She expressed her gratitude to the audience, stating, "I believe the story contained within the character of Yumi is a play that makes people of all ages and genders learn to love themselves."
Based on a 3.5 Billion View Webtoon, Running Until August 23
The production is based on the Naver webtoon by Lee Dong-gun, which has recorded a cumulative 3.5 billion global views. Reimagining the daily life of an ordinary office worker, Yumi, through the perspective of the cells in her head, the performance features an unusual addition for a musical: 'on-screen subtitles' during the 160-minute runtime, allowing the audience to fully savor the lyrics of the numbers.
Tiffany Young and Kim Ye-won play Yumi, while Choi Jae-rim and Leo anchor the show as 'Cell 109.' Kim So-hyang and Yoo Ria take the stage as 'Love Cells.' The musical 'Yumi's Cells' will run until August 23 at the CJ Towol Theater in the Seoul Arts Center.
