Dahyun Reflects on Her Journey to Becoming a Singer

The challenge that began at age 11 and her mother's decision

Im Da-young, who dreamed of becoming a singer, revealed behind-the-scenes stories from her childhood. On a recent MBC broadcast, Im Da-young shared memories of her school years and the process of walking the path of a singer.

Her aspiration toward singing began when she appeared on MBC's 'Great Birth' at the age of 11. Although she experienced the disappointment of elimination at that time, she challenged herself again the following year in 'Pop Star,' an audition program a collaboration of SM, JYP, and YG. Her mother, who initially opposed the path of a singer out of concern for her daughter's failure, decided to support the audition after seeing Im Da-young's desperation. After moving to Seoul from Jeju Island, Im Da-young achieved results in that audition, establishing a foothold for her full-scale activities.

Living alone in a gosiwon during her elementary school years

Behind the glamorous stage, there were also realistic difficulties she had to endure at a young age. Im Da-young revealed that while continuing her trainee life in Seoul, she had to live alone in a gosiwon at the age of an elementary school student.

Recalling the situation where her mother had to run a shop for their livelihood, Im Da-young said she had to mature early enough to feel like she was '40 years old' at such a young age. She shared that the loneliness and responsibility she felt while living alone became the foundation that made her who she is today. Currently, Im Da-young maintains a tender relationship with her mother and expresses deep affection for her.
