Park Byung-eun Delivers Intense Performance as Lee Chung-won in JTBC Drama 'Apartment'

Actor Park Byeong-eun has appeared on home screens as a multi-dimensional character navigating the line between good and evil in the JTBC weekend drama 'Apartment'. In this series, which premiered on the 11th, Park plays Lee Chung-won, a construction company CEO from humble beginnings. While he wins people over with his soft voice and impeccable manners, he hides a cruelty behind his clear eyes that ruthlessly crushes anyone in his way.

Cynicism Hidden Behind a Smile Shared Over Snacks

In the first episode, Park Byeong-eun meticulously portrayed Lee Chung-won's dual nature. His appearance sharing snacks with the apartment management office staff with a friendly smile showcased his down-to-earth side. However, the twist was chilling. The tension in the drama escalated the moment he uttered cynical insults with a kind face, saying, “Hey, officer, did you come here for a fan-meeting?” The sudden outbursts of rage following moments of composure firmly imprinted the character of Lee Chung-won on viewers.

Uncontrollable Madness Revealed via a Tie Pin

Lee Chung-won's madness was most clearly revealed in the scene where he punishes a resident who caused conflict over parking issues. Without any significant dialogue, Park Byeong-eun delivered a performance where he slowly walked while using a tie pin to scratch a sports car. This moment visually demonstrated the destructive nature inherent in Lee Chung-won.

In particular, the highlight was his low-voiced warning whispered into the ear of his opponent during the parking confrontation: “This apartment is mine, and anyone who touches my things in my territory dies.” The way the warmth vanished from his face—which had been smiling just moments before—leaving only a cold gaze, heightened the immersion of the drama. Rather than raising his voice or using exaggerated expressions, Park Byeong-eun calmly embodied the madness hidden within those clear eyes.

'Apartment' depicts the process of Park Hae-gang, a former boss of the Oasis faction who runs for the chairperson of the residents' representative meeting to seize hidden money within the apartment complex, teaming up with residents to expose corruption. Lee Chung-won's meticulous maneuvers drive the plot as they clash with Park Hae-gang's efforts to root out malpractice. JTBC 'Apartment' airs every Saturday at 10:40 PM and Sunday at 10:30 PM.
