Jaehyun returns from service with ‘99 Degrees,’ just shy of boiling
NCT Dream’s Jaehyun releases ‘99 Degrees,’ his first single after military service, with lyrics and composition credits of his own.
NCT Jaehyun has unveiled his new single, '99 Degrees.' This release marks his first new music in approximately one year and nine months since his October 2024 digital single, 'Unconditional.'
Jaehyun enlisted in November 2024 and has since completed his military service. During his service, he conducted the 'Mono' fan-con tour, traveling through five cities across Asia. For this new single, Jaehyun personally participated in both writing the lyrics and composing the music.
Lyrics and sound composition capturing the imperfection of '99 Degrees'
The song title, '99 Degrees,' refers to the state just before reaching 100 degrees, the temperature at which water boils. The lyrics convey a paradoxical message of finding love within the imperfection of being at 99 degrees rather than 100.
The musical arrangement begins with a piano melody that expands into a band sound in the latter half. Toward the end of the track, the instrumentation fades, focusing on the vocals to emphasize the song's core theme. The music video visualizes a journey of revisiting past memories in alignment with the flow of the lyrics.
