Yoo Jun-sang Wraps Final Swing Days Performance with Promise to Return

Actor Yoo Jun-sang completed the final performance of the musical 'Swing Days_Codename A' at the Chungmu Arts Center Grand Theater in Seoul on July 4. Having remained the center of the production from its premiere to its revival, he concluded his journey by sharing his reflections with the audience on the final stage.

Playing the protagonist Yu Il-hyeong, Yoo Jun-sang portrayed the convictions of an independence activist and the human struggles experienced in the process on stage. For the audience who joined the final performance after a long wait, the actor's sincerity toward the work and the stage remained.

Yoo Jun-sang shared his mindset for standing on stage, saying, "As time passes, each and every performance feels this precious and beautiful." He added, "I hope I can continue to stand on stage while cherishing this feeling for a long time."
Expressing gratitude to the audience who loved the production, he also left a promise, saying, "I hope to greet you again someday with this work."
NAPKO Project and Dr. Yu Ilhan's True Story Motif
'Swing Days_Codename A' is a creative musical based on the motif of the NAPKO Project and the true story of independence activist Dr. Yu Ilhan. Set during the Japanese colonial period, it depicts the process of a businessman who secretly sponsored the independence movement jumping directly into the front lines of the anti-Japanese struggle.
Based on historical facts, the work conveys the value of the daily lives we enjoy today and the sacrifices made to obtain them. For this season, Heejae Kim wrote the book, Park Hae-rim handled the adaptation, Jason Howland composed the music, and Kim Tae-hyung directed. Music director Kim Moon-jung and choreography director Lee Hyun-jung also participated.
From Premiere to Revival as Yu Il-hyeong
Through the role of Yu Il-hyeong, Yoo Jun-sang expressed the face of a character struggling and agonizing to maintain his convictions. By playing the same role from the premiere through to the revival, he built a deep understanding of the character and, as the performances progressed, deepened his portrayal of the character's emotional arc.
His stable vocal ability was also a driving force behind this stage. He embodied the independence activist's inner transformation through songs and acting that fit the flow of the play, conveying the themes of freedom, sacrifice, and conviction.
His agency, Namoo Actors, stated that after successfully concluding this work, Yoo Jun-sang plans to meet audiences again through various other works. Yoo Jun-sang is preparing for his next project, carrying forward the feelings he experienced on stage.
